ASK THE FANS: What is your favorite at home facial

Time to ask the fans:
What is your favorite at home facial treatment and/or homemade beauty products?

Today my daughter wanted to do a mudd mask and I was thinking of how to do at home facials with everyday items instead of buying the expensive masks and product.

Here is one we are going to try next:

Banana Honey Mask-Mix up 1/2 of a banana
-1 tablespoon of honey
-2 tablespoons of sour cream
Rub it all over your face and let sit for 5-10 min
If you have the time you can sit and rest with bananas on your eyes (I would prefer cucumbers)
It is a wonderful cleanser for your skin with out stripping it of natural oils

Lets hear your favorite at home facials and beauty tricks

Coupon Queeny's Homeade Laundry soap

I have always wanted to try making our own laundry detergent but as a Coupon Queen we almost never have to pay more than $0.99 for detergent. Even though we are able to get detergent for next to nothing there are many more reasons for making your own detergent

Allergies-my boys and I have very sensitive skin, every thing irritates it except the new CQ Detergent. It smells just like detergent and cleans even better than store bought.

  • Chemicals-All natural ingredients

  • Stain Remover-Arm 'n Hammer washing powder is a natural stain fighter. You can soak the clothes in the washing powder for more stain fighting, but I washed 2 shirts with the exact same stain and the CQ Detergent shirt came out cleaner.

  • HE machine safe-Yes actually better for HE machines. This uses less suds as well as HE washers.

  • Packaging-Use your own packaging instead of putting more plastic or boxes into our landfills

  • Price-The price alone is worth it @ $0.03 per load compared to $0.15-$0.20 with store bought detergents

  • That is over $200.00+ that you are saving by making your own detergent.

There are other recipes for liquid detergent that you can make but this one is simpler for my family, my kids can be involved in making it also. The liquid requires a 5 gal bucket and frequently turns to a gel state

Here is how the detergent is made. It only took me about 15 min to make from start to finish with 3 kids.

Ingredients:

· 1 box of borax (76 oz)
· 1 box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (55 oz)
· 1 bar of soap, grated (you can use Dial, Ivory, Fels Naptha, or Zote)

Directions:

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 cup Arm 'n Hammer washing soda
  • 1 bar of soap grated (I used my pampered chef grater, but you can use a regular grater, food processor, magic bullet or just about anything)
  • Mix all ingredients into mixing bowl. Stir, Stir, Stir until you have a fine powder consistency. I actually used my Magic Bullet once it was all mixed. It was super fast!
  • Then store in container of your choice with a lid. You can re-use a container or use a Rubbermaid type container.

Grated Soap

Borax + Arm Hammer

Use:

  • (2) Tbsp for large loads
  • (1) Tbsp for small loads

Yields:

  • (1) batch will yield 64 Large loads

I wanted to see how it worked on stains and believe it or not it worked better! We rubbed dirt and Grass on the front of this shirt and it took it all out with out a pre-soak.

Before with stain

After!!! NO STAIN
You may like your clothes to smell like Snuggle or Downy and you can still have that. Just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to powder before mixing. (Lavender works well)

Frugal Tips

I was reading a friends post about her lids taking over her kitchen and thought I would share what she does for her Lids and hand soap.

Are plastic lids taking over your kitchen?

If so, I feel your pain!! "smile" Today, I would like to share with you a quick solution!
Store a dish drainer in your cabinet, or any other large square container with depth to it, and you can file the lids on their sides, in size order. It's really easy to pick the right lid this way!!
**This saves money and time, since you not searching for the correct cover for ten minutes, just to have to resort to using plastic wrap!!
HAND SOAPThe next time you buy foam hand soap, or should I say the next time you get foam hand soap for a quarter, "smile", save the bottle!! There are a few ways that you can make your dollars stretch with these little foam bottles!!
Thanks Frugal Living and Having fun for the great tips

The fist thing I like to do, which is something I just started to do, is save all your small pieces of soap from the shower. These small pieces of soap are really too small to use in the shower, and seem to be in the way more than any thing else. Take the small pieces of soap, put them in the foam soap bottles, add hot water shake, and the small soaps will slowly dissolve ~ making some great hand soap for the kids to wash their hands with!!
The other thing you can do, which is something I have been doing for awhile now, is take 2 tbsp of Dish Soap add hot water shake, and have a bottle of dish foam soap to help you pre-rinse your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. It also works great on dishes that do not need a lot of soap and just needs a quick washing! When I just wash a quick plate, this foam dish soap is perfect for that!!
